Scunthorope United issue update on defender injured in train stabbing attack
Scunthorpe United have confirmed defender Jonathan Gjoshe is recovering from the non-life-threatening injuries he sustained during Saturday night’s train attack.
The National League club told the BBC that the player was slashed across the bicep and had to undergo an operation in hosptial.
‘Scunthorpe United can confirm registered player Jonathan Gjoshe was one of the victims affected by the shocking attack on an LNER train bound for London on Saturday evening,’ a statement on the club’s official website read.
‘We can confirm that Jonathan sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the attack, but currently remains in hospital.
‘Due to the ongoing investigations taking place, we are currently unable to update further.’

Gjoshe, 22, signed for Scunthorpe on a ‘non-contract basis’ in September.
The statement added: ‘Everyone at the club, from the board, management and his teammates, along with all staff behind the scenes, sends our heartfelt well wishes to Jonathan for a full recovery, which is also extended to all the victims on board the train.’
Anthony Williams, 32, meanwhile, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with 10 counts of attempted murder.
He is also charged with one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one count of possession of a bladed article.
An LNER staff member is in a critical but stable condition in hospital following the stabbings on the high-speed service, while four other people remain in hospital.
Separately, Williams is charged with one count of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article over an incident at Pontoon Dock DLR station in London in the early hours of Saturday, where a victim suffered facial injuries after being attacked with a knife.
He allegedly used a ‘large kitchen knife’ in both attacks, according to court documents.

Williams appeared in the dock in handcuffs with four security officers alongside him, and spoke softly to confirm his name, age and address.
He was not asked to enter pleas and when asked his address mumbled “no fixed abode”.
It is understood he is not known to the security services or counter-terrorism policing, and had not been referred to the Government anti-extremism scheme Prevent.
Opposing bail for Williams, prosecutor Olaide Esan told the hearing: ‘The defendant has attempted to murder 11 people in total.
‘These are serious allegations. These are very serious offences.
‘The defendant is a risk to the trains and to the members of the public.’

At least 10 people have been injured in a mass stabbing attack on a busy high-speed LNER heading to London.
Passengers were trapped in carriages as the attacker began knifing people, with people trampling over each other and hiding in toilets to escape the knifeman.
One ‘extremely bloodied’ victim entered carriages saying, ‘They’ve got a knife, I’ve been stabbed,’ before collapsing.

Where did the attack take place?
At 7.42pm last night the reports of knife injuries were raised on the 6.25pm LNER train from Doncaster to London King’s Cross.
Witnesses say the attack unfolded shortly after the train pulled out of Peterborough, also in Cambridgeshire, which was a scheduled stop.
The train then made an unscheduled stop at Huntingdon where police boarded.
A witness called Gavin told Sky News: ‘The armed police were pointing to the suspect as we came off the train.
‘Police were shouting “get down, get down!” The suspect was waving quite a large knife. They detained him. I think it was a Taser that got him down in the end.’
How many people have been injured?
At least 10 people have reported injuries, with nine in life-threatening condition.
Passenger Olly Foster said two people were ‘severely stabbed’ ahead of him.
He said: ‘A young girl was distraught as the attacker tried to stab her, but a hero of an older man got in the way taking a gash on his forehead and I think another on his neck.’

Wren Chambers told BBC she thought the attack was a ‘halloween prank’ at first – until she saw people running through the carriages.
She said: ‘There was a girl next to me who was near where the first stabbings happened.
‘She said the man on the floor stepped in front of her and then got stabbed in the neck.’
What have the police said so far?
Two people have been arrested and counter-terrorism police have been called in to join the investigation.
The motive for the attack remains unclear.
Chief Superintendent Chris Casey of British Transport Police said: ‘This is a shocking incident and first and foremost my thoughts are with those who have been injured this evening and their families.
‘We’re conducting urgent enquiries to establish what has happened, and it could take some time before we are in a position to confirm anything further.
‘At this early stage, it would not be appropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident.
‘Our response is ongoing at the station and will be for some time.’
What is the travel disruption and how long is it expected to last?
LNER, which operates East Coast Mainline services in the UK, has said that services running between London King’s Cross and Lincoln, Doncaster, Leeds, Bradford Forster Square and Harrogate will be disrupted today and tomorrow.
Passengers are advised to defer their travel where possible.
Thameslink trains will not serve Huntingdon for the time being.
‘Disruption is expected until the end of day,’ the railway operator said.
