Gary Neville says two teams can deny Arsenal the title after Man City beat Liverpool
Gary Neville believes three teams can still win the Premier League title after Manchester City’s statement victory over Liverpool.
Man City thumped the defending champions 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday in Pep Guardiola’s 1,000th game as a manager.
Erling Haaland broke the deadlock with a deflected header shortly after seeing his penalty saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Liverpool thought they had equalised through Virgil van Dijk but his header was controversially ruled out for offside.
Arne Slot was furious with the decision and his mood got even worse when Nico Gonzalez rifled home Man City’s second on the stroke of half-time.

Liverpool improved after the break but any hopes of a comeback were dashed when player of the match Jeremy Doku curled in a brilliant third for the hosts.
A fifth defeat in 11 league games leaves Slot’s side eighth in the Premier League table, eight points adrift of early pacesetters Arsenal.
Arsenal have been far the best team in England this season but their ten-game winning run came to an end on Saturday as they drew 2-2 with Sunderland.
That result and Man City’s impressive victory over Liverpool means Guardiola’s side are just four points behind the league leaders.
Neville admits it looks as though Man City will provide the greatest competition to Arsenal but has refused to rule Liverpool out of the title race.
‘I thought today was about which of these two clubs was going to emerge as Arsenal’s nearest challengers and could they send a message to the Gunners?’ Neville told Sky Sports.
‘Pep Guardiola, in his 1000th game as a manager, his team and his staff, have done that.
‘It’s a really good day for Guardiola and Man City, but it’s a difficult day for Arne Slot and Liverpool.’
Speaking on his Sky Sports podcast, Neville added: ‘Pep has giving them a bit of belief going into the international belief.

‘They’re four points off Arsenal, they’ve got experience and they’ve got players who have been around the block and know how to win titles.
‘He will just want to hang on Mikel Arteta’s shoulder by March because he’s the one you don’t want near you.
‘I thought the biggest challenger [to title favourites Arsenal] would be Liverpool, I thought Man City were too inconsistent, but it looks like I was badly wrong.
‘It was a really good day for Pep Guardiola and his City team. If they can still be around there and get close they are going to be really, really dangerous during the run-in just because of their experience.
‘They’ve still got to convince me that they’re going to win the title – Arsenal are the better team – but they’re the one team and the one manager you wouldn’t want on your shoulder going down the home straight.’
Pressed on whether Liverpool could still be considered contenders for the title, Neville added: ‘I’m going to say yes.
‘If it clicked something could happen. They’ve got firecrackers and world-class players in that dressing room.
‘There’s big characters too, Van Dijk, Alisson and Salah are huge characters. They’re Premier League greats so if they can pull it together with the manager who had a great first season and get something going with the younger players, maybe they can still do something.
‘But today was a worry because it was a really, really poor performance. They need to have a good look at themselves and they’ll know they’re nowhere near it at this moment in time.’
Arsenal would have been six points clear during the November international break had it not been for Sunderland’s injury-time equaliser at the Stadium of Light.
But Manchester United legend and ex-England defender Neville downplayed the importance of the Sunderland draw.
‘I wasn’t sat there thinking it was a huge blow for Arsenal,’ he added. ‘I actually thought it was a game that might catch them out a bit.
‘It’s a marathon, not a sprint, and there’s going to bumps along the road. It’s normal to drop some points in the Premier League so I wouldn’t be screaming or shouting if I was an Arsenal player.
‘Conceding a late goal gives you a sickening feeling but they just need to get back to winning ways again after the international break.’

Roy Keane has revealed his Premier League title prediction after Manchester City closed the gap on Arsenal with an impressive victory over Liverpool.
Man City thumped the defending champions 3-0 in Pep Guardiola’s 1,000th game as a manager to move back up to second in the table.
Liverpool won two games in a row before their trip to the Etihad Stadium but underwhelmed as they have done for so much of their title defence to slip to eighth in the table.
Erling Haaland broke the deadlock with a deflected header before a Liverpool equaliser was controversially ruled out for offisde.

Any faint hopes of a Liverpool comeback were ended on the hour mark as the impressive Jeremy Doku curled home Manchester City’s third.
A statement win over the defending champions sees Guardiola’s side climb to second in the Premier League – four points behind early pacesetters Arsenal. Liverpool are down in eighth.
The Gunners were six points clear at the top of the table before the weekend but dropped two points away at Sunderland as their brilliant ten-game winning run came to an end.
Keane, a seven-time Premier League winner with Manchester United, backed Arsenal to win the title before the season started and is still siding with Mikel Arteta’s side despite Man City thumping Liverpool.
‘I reckon if you asked Pep six or seven weeks ago he would’ve said this season is a rebuilding job. But Man City and Pep have that spark back,’ Keane said on Sky Sports.
‘Haaland is obviously a goal machine, but Foden coming back, the other players making an impact – they’re certainly back in the mix.
‘If he surprised everyone and managed to win the league this year – it would be up there at the top of all of his achievements.
‘The signs are good for Man City – I think they’re back in the mix, but I’ll stick with Arsenal.’

On Liverpool’s chances of retaining the Premier League trophy, Keane added: ‘I think it is crisis time for Liverpool.
‘It’s okay to lose to a club like Man City – it’s a tough place to come. But to lose seven in ten – five league losses already – It has to be a crisis for a club like Liverpool.
‘I thought Liverpool looked like a really weak team today. The manager said he was pleased with the second half, but the game was over! It’s easy to play well when you’re not playing for anything.
‘I thought [Slot’s] assessment of the game was spot on. City looked stronger, technically better and more physical than Liverpool today.
‘[Liverpool] still had moments, they’ve always got quality, but the goals they’re giving away – their decision making – was not good enough.
‘There was a lack of intensity, a lack of energy. The subs, when they came on, looked really soft. I think it is a crisis for Liverpool.’

Virgil van Dijk sends message to Arsenal after Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester City
Virgil van Dijk insists Liverpool are ‘not going to give up’ on retaining the title and says they are ‘ready’ for a ‘big fight’ with Arsenal and Manchester City for the Premier League trophy.
Liverpool’s hopes of retaining the title were dealt a further blow as they suffered a humbling 3-0 defeat to Man City on Sunday.
Arne Slot’s side enjoyed two wins before their trip to the Etihad Stadium but that momentum was nowhere to be seen as they were well-beaten in Pep Guardiola’s 1,000th game as a manager.
Erling Haaland continued his sensational form with Man City’s opener – shortly after the disappointment of having a penalty saved by Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Liverpool thought they had equalised before half-time but Van Dijk’s header was ruled out as Andy Robertson was in an offside position and adjudged to be impacting play.

Slot was furious with the decision and his mood only got worse when Nico Gonzalez doubled Man City’s lead with a long-range strike on the stroke of half-time.
Liverpool improved marginally after the break but any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Jeremy Doku capped a superb performance with a superb third.
While Manchester City climb back up to second in the Premier League – four points behind Arsenal – Liverpool are just eighth going into the international break, eight points adrift of the top.
Arsenal have been the standout team in England this season but dropped two points against Sunderland on Saturday.
Speaking after Liverpool’s fifth defeat in 11 league games, Anfield captain Van Dijk said: ‘It’s about finding consistency and carrying on. Now we go to our countries, stay fit and be ready for a big run after.
‘We are not going to give up whatsoever. We are in November and we are ready for a long season and a big fight.
‘The first half was difficult and they were much more comfortable on the ball and it was difficult for our guys to put pressure on them.
‘I don’t think there was a lot of danger, but Doku had a good game and it was difficult for Conor [Bradley] in the one on one at times. I don’t think we were much in trouble but we could have done better.

‘We had to dig deep in the second half. We got more momentum in possession but out pressing wasn’t good enough.’
Van Dijk was reluctant to comment on Liverpool’s controversial disallowed goal at the Etihad Stadium and said it was up to pundits to ‘debate’ the decision.
‘In football the officials are deciding the key decisions and we have to deal with it on the pitch,’ Van Dijk said. ‘There is no point discussing this from my point of view.
‘The reality is that we lost 3-0 and that is a big blow. It doesn’t matter what I say [about the goal] because anything I say will be in the media and the whole international break will be about my comment on the decision.
‘I just focus on the fact we lost. You guys can debate if it should have stood.’
Premier League leaders Arsenal were last crowned champions of England in 2004. Mikel Arteta’s side have finished as runners-up for the past three seasons.
