Mickey Rourke’s future on Celebrity Big Brother appears to have been confirmed after calls for him to be axed.
During last night’s launch, which saw the Hollywood actor, 72, join the likes of JoJo Siwa and Patsy Palmer in the iconic Big Brother house, Mickey sparked backlash for his actions and comments towards host AJ Odudu.
Walking onto the stage, he suddenly pulled her towards him before later eying her up and down and continuing to stare at her.
AJ, remaining professional throughout, called out to him: ‘Stop looking at me! It’s time for you to get in the house!’ while her co-host Will Best also tried to bring Mickey’s attention back towards the show.
Viewers were horrified, calling his actions ‘creepy’ and vile’, with some even saying it was ‘harassment’.
And despite some saying he shouldn’t be allowed in the house for the rest of the show and be immediately reprimanded, it has now been confirmed that Mickey will remain a part of the programme.
In tonight’s episode, he’s allowed to pick prizes after the other celebrities completed challenges while introducing themselves to one another.
Big Brother says: ‘Mickey, right here there are some incredible goodies for you to grab and with a whopping 2400 points to spend, you can buy whatever prize your heart desires. Every prize has a price tag, and how you spend your points is up to you.’
‘Mickey, it’s time to make your decisions. What is the first prize you would like to purchase?’
The former pro boxer opts for a smoothie maker for Daley Thompson and a takeaway pass for Love Island star Chris Hughes, before he’s given an even bigger choice when Big Brother tells him: ‘You’ve bagged some fabulous rewards, but on Big Brother’s Super Secret Very Hush Hush Game Show, the surprises don’t stop there.
‘As a prize winner, you get exclusive access to Big Brother’s Top Secret Power Prize Room where the best prize of all awaits you.’
He’s then presented with the power to grant himself immunity in the next eviction, or the chance to select another housemate to receive immunity, or a Killer Nomination, which, if picked, would grant Mickey the power to select one housemate to face eviction.
Elsewhere in tonight’s episode, Mickey – who admitted having never watched Celebrity Big Brother before – gets to know his fellow housemates, and in a conversation with Trisha Goddard opens up about his reason for coming on the show.
‘I thought let me just try something new. I decided to isolate and live alone and not have any relationships about six years ago. So, a lot of good stuff is coming to me from just being alone,’ he says.
‘This is not easy here for me.’
Celebrity Big Brother continues tonight at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
