Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Netflix action-comedy has been cancelled after just two seasons.

Fubar, which the former professional bodybuilder, 78, starred in alongside Monica Barbaro, was his first foray into television.

According to Deadline, the cancellation of the show was due to a drop in viewership after its June season two premiere.

The first season of Fubar debuted in May 2023 and saw a whopping 11 million views, while the second series had only 2.2 million in the same weekend time frame.

Schwarzenegger announced that he would be starring in Fubar in 2021, sharing: ‘Fans from all over the world have been asking me for a wild ride like this for years, and now they’re finally going to get it because of our great partners at Skydance and Netflix.

‘I am beyond pumped to start work on the show with [creator] Nick [Santora] and Monica and the whole team.’

In the show he portrayed Luke Brunner, a veteran CIA operator, while Barbaro starred as his daughter.

After discovering they both secretly work for the CIA, ‘their high-stakes missions get tangled up with awkward family dynamics.’

Fubar also starred Milan Carter, Gabriel Luna, Travis Van Winkle, and Jay Baruchel among others.

In addition to creator, Nick Santora was showrunner and executive producer, alongside Schwarzenegger. 

The second season had been hotly anticipated by fans, but viewers were worried the show could be on the chopping block — with many admitting it was a less-than-stellar return.

@firdaus_sheik took to X to describe the season as a ‘tough watch’ while @SaidWhatWeSaid wrote: ‘Season 2 of FUBAR was full of action and found family but felt underwhelming in prioritising messy love triangles over character growth.’

@rbaccari9 feared the show would get cancelled ‘before it gets a deserved final season’, writing: ‘[Netflix] keep increasing prices and refusing to give shows that people love a last season. I am going to FINALLY cancel Netflix if Fubar doesn’t get a 3rd season.’

Meanwhile, Rotten Tomatoes user Pan N wrote in their brutal review of season two: ‘The first season wasn’t this bad. The acting is horrible, the direction is awful, the story is ridiculous and the dialogue dreadful. The premise is stupid and then it went downhill from there. There were times I literally cringed.’ Ouch.

However, not all the reactions were negative, with many Netflix subscribers taking to X to praise the second season. @itswallsworld said the ‘quirky but brilliant’ CIA team headed up by Schwarzenegger brought ‘terrific fun’. 

@Kilts4me echoed: ‘Just finished Fubar S2. This show is just great. A bit slap stick, but clever and just fun. Stand out performances from absolutely every cast member, my fav from  Andy Buckley he was hilarious. Hope of hopes there’s a S3. Schwarzenegger more please!’
