Chelsea issue ultimatum to Jadon Sancho over £25m transfer from Manchester United

Chelsea are ready to sign Jadon Sancho on a permanent transfer from Manchester United but only if he takes a significant pay-cut.
The Blues have been weighing up whether or not to sign Sancho permanently following his mixed loan spell at Stamford Bridge.
Sancho struggled for consistency following his arrival from Old Trafford but did help Chelsea qualify for the Champions League and win the Europa Conference League.
When Chelsea signed Sancho on loan, they agreed to make the deal permanent at the end of the season for between £20-25m.
However, it emerged earlier in the season that Chelsea were able to get out of the deal by paying Manchester United £5m in compensation.

Sky Sports say Chelsea have opened talks with Sancho’s representatives and hope to keep him at the club.
With a return to Manchester United seemingly off the table, Sancho is keen to sign a permanent deal with Chelsea, the club he supported growing up.

But talkSPORT say Chelsea have informed Sancho he will need to take a pay-cut if he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge and agree a deal which fits in with the wage structure at the club.
Sancho is believed to be on around £300,000-a-week and a compromise will need to be reached as Chelsea’s policy has been to sign players on long, incentivised contracts with lower base wages.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca gave little away when asked about Sancho’s future following the Conference League victory over Real Betis.

‘We are going to sit with the club and decide what happens for next year,’ Maresca said.
‘If we finish fourth it is also because of Jadon, if we win tonight it is also because of Jadon. It is normal in a season to go a little bit up and down.’
As has often been the case this season, Sancho started on Chelsea’s bench against Betis but made a telling contribution following his introduction, curling home his side’s third goal in a 4-1 win.

Speaking after Chelsea won the Conference League, Blues hero Joe Cole urged his former club to keep Sancho and tipped him to go to another level next season.
‘I think Jadon is a really great player and I think he’s done well,’ Cole said.
‘He’s been rotated in and out a bit but I want to see Jadon playing. You want a player like that in your squad. It will come down to a financial decision I imagine but I really like him.’
Asked whether he thought Sancho had done enough to earn a permanent move to Chelsea, Cole added: ‘Yes I do.
‘This is a kid who went to Dortmund and was a superstar as a kid. It wasn’t working at Man United but he’s done well, he’s got his career back on track at Chelsea.
‘I think there’s more to come from him as well.’
Sancho scored 12 goals in 83 appearances for Manchester United following a big-money move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.

Chelsea close to making key £25million transfer decision

Chelsea are close to making a final decision on the future of Jadon Sancho following last night’s Europa Conference League triumph.
The England international’s season-long loan spell from Manchester United ended on a major high last night after he scored a superb goal in his side’s 4-1 win over Real Betis.
Chelsea have the option to make the winger’s move from United a permanent one but must pay £25million to do so.
Should they opt to send him back to the Red Devils, however, they will have to pay a £5m penalty fee but, according to the Guardian, that appears to be the likeliest course of action.
Indeed, earlier this month Sancho reportedly indicated he would be happy to leave the Premier League altogether this summer and return to the Bundesliga for a third spell with Borussia Dortmund

Sancho has made 42 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring five goals but has shown only flashes of the ability that marked him out as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking talents when he moved to United from Dortmund nearly four years ago.
Chelsea are looking at signing another winger in the transfer market and are admirers of Arsenal target Nico Williams, Dortmund’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and are monitoring Rodrygo’s situation at Real Madrid with interest.

Enzo Maresca, meanwhile, hopes Chelsea’s latest European triumph can be a ‘starting point’ as he looks to guide the club back to former glories.
‘Hopefully it can be a starting point to build a winner mentality,’ said Maresca.
‘You need to win games, you need to win competitions. And for sure, the trophy we won tonight is going to make us better.

‘But also, I’m very proud about the path or the journey we have done in the Premier League. But for me, it’s the most difficult competition in the world. You have to be consistent in 38 games. And these players, they showed.
‘That’s why after Nottingham Forest, my outburst was a little bit exaggerated. But the reason why is just because in 38 games, you need to be consistent.
‘And with the youngest squad in the history of the Premier League, it’s something unbelievable.’

Enzo Maresca reveals what he told Isco after Chelsea beat Real Betis in Conference League final

Enzo Maresca had a special message for Isco after Chelsea’s 4-1 win against Real Betis in the Conference League final on Wednesday night.
Chelsea went behind early in Wroclaw as Isco’s excellent pass found Abde Ezzalzouli, who fired past Filip Jorgensen to put Betis in front in the ninth minute.
Maresca’s side stepped in the second half and Cole Palmer’s superb ball into Betis’ box found Enzo Fernandez, who headed in the equaliser.
Palmer was the provider once again to help Chelsea take the lead as his neat turn and cross from the right picked out Nicolas Jackson, who scored with another header from close range.
Jason Sancho, on as a second half substitute, put the tie beyond doubt with a brilliant finish to extend Chelsea’s advantage.

Moises Caicedo then wrapped up Chelsea’s 4-1 win with another neat strike on the edge of Betis’ penalty area.
The win is a historic one for Chelsea as they have become the first club to win the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.

Speaking after his side’s win, Maresca revealed that he sought out Isco to praise the former Real Madrid midfielder for his performance in the final.
‘I told Isco at the end that he has a quality that makes the difference,’ Maresca told Movistar.

Chelsea midfielder Fernandez also revealed paid tribute to Isco after speaking with the 33-year-old during the post-match medal ceremony.
‘He showed all his qualities today and throughout his career, he has won many things, and I told him to keep going,’ Fernandez said.
Meanwhile, Maresca also revealed that he predicted Chelsea would endure a difficult first half in the Conference League final due to their tough 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest on the final day of the Premier League season last Sunday which secured them a place in next season’s Champions League.
‘I expected it to turn out like that because on Sunday we played until the 100th minute to qualify for the Champions League,’ Maresca said.
‘Betis had played on Friday, I expected them to start strongly, but we adjusted at half time and then I think we were much better.’
