Chelsea star will be ‘disappointed’ after West Ham win, says Danny Murphy

Danny Murphy believes Liam Delap will be ‘disappointed’ after being substituted early in Chelsea’s 5-1 win against West Ham on Friday night.
Enzo Maresca’s side went behind at the London Stadium as Lucas Paqueta’s long-range strike put West Ham ahead in the sixth minute.
But woeful defending from Graham Potter’s side allowed Chelsea to take a 3-1 lead by half time following goals from Joao Pedro, Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez.
Chelsea piled more misery on West Ham after the break as goals from Moises Caicedo and Trevoh Chalobah sealed their 5-1 victory and a second successive defeat for West Ham in the Premier League.
Delap, meanwhile, led Chelsea’s attack with Joao Pedro playing just behind him in the No.10 role following Cole Palmer’s injury in the warm-up.

However, Chelsea’s £30 million summer signing was unable to find the net before he was replaced by Andrey Santos in the 62nd minute.
‘He’s done alright, I think he’ll be disappointed he’s been brought off at 5-1 and he hasn’t scored,’ Murphy said of Delap during his commentary for talkSPORT.

‘He has contributed, he’s been a focal point, a great touch for the third goal, he’s been a handful on the goalkeeper to create the fifth goal on the set-play.
‘His mum and dad in the crowd there will be very proud of him.
‘But he will be disappointed because he will sense chances here in the last 30 minutes.’
Meanwhile, Joao Pedro believes Chelsea showcased their attacking ‘power’ against West Ham in Palmer’s absence.
‘We started the game having gone one goal down, but we showed our togetherness today to win the game,’ said the Brazilian forward.
‘I think we know our power. When we started the game, the first thing we thought about was winning. We’ve got so much power in the team. Cole Palmer was out today but we played Estevao Willian and he showed his quality. It’s good to have a team like this.
‘With [so many] different players scoring today, that will help give confidence to the team. That confidence will help us keep going.
‘To have the first win away is very important for us. It helps to prepare us for other games. You never know, you can go 1-0 down, but if you have the confidence, then you can change the game.’

Chelsea send message to Alejandro Garnacho over Manchester United transfer delay

Chelsea have reiterated their desire to sign Alejandro Garnacho and told the Manchester United winger to be patient as they look to agree a deal before the transfer deadline.
Despite an abundance of quality in the wide attacking areas, Chelsea are keen to welcome Garnacho to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Garnacho accepts his United career is over after being included in Ruben Amorim’s bomb squad and is hoping to seal a move to Chelsea.
The Argentina winger always wanted to stay in the Premier League despite being banished by Amorim and play for a Champions League club.
While both parties want the deal to happen, talks have stalled as Manchester United and Chelsea are a fair way apart in terms of Garnacho’s valuation.

The Red Devils want to raise around £50m from his sale but Chelsea value the player at around £30m.
Garnacho may be tempted to consider other options during this stand-off but, according to talkSPORT, he has informed his friends he will be joining Chelsea.

The 21-year-old has already agreed personal terms with Chelsea and is just waiting for those above him to strike a deal.
It is also claimed Chelsea bosses have told Garnacho to be patient as they thrash out a deal with Manchester United and that they remain confident of making a breakthrough.
Chelsea are fully aware that United are in a poor negotiating position given Amorim has made it clear Garnacho is no longer in his plans.
Alejandro Garnacho, expert analysis
‘Clubs try to leave things to the last minute sometimes, to strike a tough deal. But they need to be careful. Garnacho is a good player, and yes maybe they can drive his value down by waiting.
‘However, I remember players at Tottenham who would have to wait until the very last day of the transfer window for Daniel Levy to let them leave for the biggest price. Daniel would always make sure he got what he wanted for players. There were big players he’d do this too. Gareth Bale and Luka Modric.

‘So for Manchester United, they know when they will have to sell him, but they will also know when they want to just keep him, and I think that would be a mistake. There’s still two weeks to find out – if it was me, I would try and get him out of the club before the last day of the transfer window because if they leave it too late, they may have to take an offer that they don’t really want.
‘I think Garnacho is a good player. Will he be a difference maker at Chelsea? I’m not sure, but he has lots of potential.’
Former Premier League defender William Gallas speaking to GamblingZone
Amorim told the winger to find a new club at the end of last season after growing frustrated with his performances and some off-field issues.
Following the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham, Garnacho and his brother questioned Amorim’s tactics, leaving the Old Trafford boss shocked and furious.
Garnacho was then left out of United’s pre-season tour to America before he was omitted from the matchday squad for the Premier League opener against Arsenal.

It is not just Amorim who has lost patience with Garnacho but also a large section of the Old Trafford fan-base, with a picture of the player outside the stadium even defaced last week.
Chelsea have spent around £250m on eight new signings so far this summer but are interested in Xavi Simons as well as Garnacho.
Simons, too, has already approved the move but Chelsea are yet to meet RB Leipzig’s valuation for the Netherlands international.
While working on deals for Garnacho and Simons, Chelsea are keen to offload up to ten first-team players before the summer transfer window closes.
Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Raheem Sterling, Axel Disasi, Renato Veiga, Carney Chukwuemeka, Ben Chilwell and Tyrique George are all available for sale.
Club World Cup winners Chelsea began their 2025-26 Premier League campaign in underwhelming fashion, sharing a goalless draw with Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.
Enzo Maresca’s side have three more London derbies coming up, starting with a trip to east London to face struggling West Ham on Friday night.
