Louis Saha has named a Manchester United midfielder as his ‘biggest disappointment of the season’.

Few United players have covered themselves in glory during a dismal 2024-25 campaign but Saha has been most disappointed with injury-prone Mount.

Mount’s Old Trafford career is still yet to get going following his £55m move from Chelsea in 2023.

The 26-year-old won the Champions League and became an England regular during his spell at Stamford Bridge but his stock has fallen since moving to Manchester.

Reoccurring injury issues restricted Mount to just 14 league appearances last season and he is yet to match that tally this term.

Mount has not scored a goal in over a year and Saha admits the move to Manchester United has ‘not worked out’.

‘For me, it’s got to be Mason Mount,’ Saha told Mega Dice when asked which player has disappointed him the most this season.

‘He has been injured all year. You know, I’m sure he is working hard, but it’s difficult. There were a lot of hopes and it didn’t work out for him.’

Saha, who like Mount had his fair share of injury issues, added: ‘It is extremely difficult because Mason is under more pressure than I was.

‘When I was out, I had Ronaldo, Giggs, Tevez, Van Nistelrooy and others who could perform. I had enormous competition, but it was only against me.

‘My battle back from injury was to try to catch them up, or I’d be on the bench. It was really hard.

‘Mason, though, needs to relax. He needs to learn from this situation and keep confidence that he’s a terrific player.

‘He needs to get back and find the right place on the pitch to demand the ball 50 times a game and trust himself. Sometimes, I don’t see him involved. 

‘Yes, he presses, but that’s not his game. That’s not why we signed him. So it’s about how to find the right pockets and how to add to the team that you’re playing with.

‘This is the type of learning he needs, understanding those teammates and their weaknesses, how he can compensate.

‘But at the same time, he has to show his own strength about being in those pockets, being creative, being a bigger asset in counter-attacking and all those things.

‘That’s where we want to see him, the real Mason Mount. He needs to shrug off any pressure he feels and play with enjoyment again. Yes, he has the number seven on his back, but let’s relax.’

Manchester United have endured a dismal Premier League campaign, slipping to 14th in the table with five games remaining.

Ruben Amorim’s side can at least bring some joy to Old Trafford by winning the Europa League and qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

United pulled off a miraculous comeback win against Lyon in the quarter-finals and face La Liga side Athletic Bilbao for a place in the Europa League final.
