A man in his 50s has been injured after receiving ‘a machete blow to the back of their head and arm’ near a school in Paris today.
The incident happened at around 5pm near Place de Breteuil in the French capital where now there is heavy police presence.
Armed with a ‘machete,’ ‘cleaver,’ or a ‘knife’, the attacker was ‘playing cat and mouse’ with police before eventually striking one victim, witnesses describe.
A young woman, who saw what happened, told Le Parisien: ‘I saw a man running with a weapon in his hand, very threatening.
‘He was chased by police, and a few moments later we saw that someone was injured.’
The alleged suspect fled the scene and has so far not been apprehended.
Paris police have launched a hunt at a time when the city is already under the strain of the ‘Block Everything’ protests that were attended by around 200,000 people yesterday.
Local media reported that the victim did not suffer life-threatening injuries and was take to hospital.

Minister of culture Rachida Dati arrived at the scene as officers erected a cordone.
She said in a statement on X: ‘On site following the machete attack in the 7th.
‘Support for the victim, whose prognosis is not in question, and for the law enforcement forces mobilized.
‘Enough of the insecurity and daily violence: we must restore our authority everywhere in Paris and give ourselves the means to do so.’
Dati later added: ‘There is a school in the area, the lawns of Breteuil are often occupied by local residents, the children of local residents… It’s very family-oriented.’

Fire breaks out in central Paris restaurant amid violent nationwide protests

A restaurant in the centre of Paris has been engulfed in flames amid the nationwide ‘Block Everything’ protest attended by almost 200,000 people today.
Fire raged in Wafu Bar on Rue St Denis – one of the many consequences of the demonstrations against Emmanuel Macros, the political establishment and planned budget cuts.
Footage showed flames licking the building’s façade as a man was seen climbing down a scaffolding on the building next door, in a race for his life.
France came to a standstill as police clashed with protesters who blocked roads across the country and set more than 100 fires.
Authorities said they had even ‘thwarted’ an ‘intrusion attempt’ on Gare du Nord in Paris, where the Eurostar runs.
Hundreds of youths had gathered outside, chanting anti-Macron slogans.
One carried a placard with the Tricolor flag and the slogan ‘The rich elite’s Republic’.
Sorbonne student Emma Meguerditchian, 17, said: ‘We have come to make some noise.

‘We want them to know we can’t take this any more, we want another type of government.’
As many as 473 people were arrested during hundreds of rallies after the government mobilised more than 80,000 police officers and gendarmes.
This comes after the French parliament ousted prime minister Francois Bayrou in a confidence vote over his plans to tame the country’s ballooning debt.
This led Macron to appoint his fifth prime minister in less than two years, choosing a close ally, Sebastien Lecornu, which outraged left-wing politicians.

Fred, a CGT union official at the Paris public transport company RATP, said: ‘It is the same shit, it is the same, it is Macron who is the problem, not the ministers. He has to go.’
France is under pressure to lower a budget deficit that stands at double the European Union’s 3% ceiling, and a debt pile equivalent to 114% of GDP.
The ‘Block Everything’ movement, which first emerged in May, reflects the anger with what protesters say is a dysfunctional ruling elite.

Barcelona star accuses Disneyland of racism after ‘disgraceful’ incident involving his son

Barcelona footballer Raphinha has accused Disneyland of racism after a mascot allegedly ‘ignored’ his son while hugging ‘all the white children’.
Raphinha posted a series of videos to social media appearing to show his young son, Gael, being repeatedly overlooked by a mascot at Disneyland Paris.
The footage shows a Disneyland character embracing several children while Raphinha’s son stands to one side.
Gael appears to be encouraged to approach the mascot and if even nudged in their direction but the ascot then stands up and walks away.
The young boy continues to try to get the mascot’s attention before being picked up by a relative and taken to the Disneyland employee.

They share a brief interaction but the family member holding Gael then gives up and walks off looking displeased.
‘Your employees are disgraceful,’ said Raphinha, who joined Barcelona from Premier League club Leeds United in 2022.

‘You shouldn’t treat people like this, especially a CHILD. You’re supposed to make children happy, not ignore a child. I prefer to say “ignore”, rather than anything else. You’re a disgrace.’
Raphinha went on to accuse the mascot of deliberately ignoring his son because of his skin colour.
The 28-year-old Ballon d’Or nominee added: ‘I understand the fatigue of those who work with this, but why did all the white children get hugs and not my son?

‘I hate you, Disneyland. He just wanted a hello and a hug. Lucky for you, he doesn’t get it. That employee is s****y.’
Disneyland Paris, which attracts around 12 millions visitors every year, are yet to issue a response to Raphinha’s allegations.
Barcelona star Raphinha was not with his family at the time as he is with the Brazil national team during this international break.

He started Brazil’s 3-0 World Cup qualifying win over Chile at the Maracana on Friday night and is expected to feature in Tuesday’s friendly against South Korea.
Raphinha will then return to Barcelona ahead of their next La Liga match against Valencia next weekend.
The ex-Leeds winger enjoyed a brilliant 2024-25 campaign, scoring 34 goals in all competitions to help Barca win a domestic treble.

Hansi Flick’s side also impressed in Europe, reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League before being narrowly beaten by Inter Milan.
Raphinha spent two years in the Premier League before moving to the Nou Camp, helping Leeds avoid relegation with 17 goals.
He was one of four Barcelona players nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’Or award alongside Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski and Pedri.
This is not the first time Disneyland has been accused of racism by visitors.
In 2022, a family accused an employee dressed as Princess Rapunzel of ignoring their black daughter.
‘Please repost this racist a** s***,’ the child’s father said. ‘Kids shouldn’t have to go through this. They treat our kids like they don’t belong.’
Last year Disneyland introduced its first ride to celebrate a Black princess as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure replaced Splash Mountain, a log-flume ride inspired by a racist 1946 film.
‘I was like, it’s about time,’ said Chazlyn Stunson, a 23-year-old content creator who attended a Tiana’s Bayou Adventure launch event.

A Moroccan national who lit his cigarette with the flame of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier will be deported from Paris.
Footage circulating on social media shows the 47-year-old climbing over the chain barrier beneath the Arc de Triomphe and lighting a smoke.
The incident happened on Tuesday morning, sending shockwaves across France.
Bruno Retailleau, France’s interior minister, said on X: ‘This unworthy and deplorable act undermines the memory of those who died for France.’
Meanwhile, Patricia Miralles, the French minister for war veterans, said what happened is ‘not a mere misstep, but a desecration’.
She stressed: ‘France will never tolerate the tarnishing of the memory of those who died for her. Never.’
It was later revealed that the suspect – a homeless man from Morocco only identified as HamdiH. – will have his residence permit revoked, Le Figaro reported, citing a source close to the case.
He initially denied responsibility, before later admitting that he is the man in the video.

Police have accused him of ‘violating a burial site, tomb, cinerary urn, or monument erected in memory of the dead,’ an offense that theoretically carries a one-year prison sentence and a €15,000 fine.
Local media reported that the man is well known to the police and has 21 records in the criminal record processing file (TAJ), including car theft, vandalism, violence and public insults on grounds of race.
A woman, who claimed to be the author of the video, said the man did not ‘appear drunk or under the influence of drugs.’
She added: ‘On the contrary, he was clearly aware of what he was doing, and proud of having done it.’
